Rebeuss, Camp Pénal : Comment les détenus ont célébré le Magal à Dakar
Even behind prison walls, the Grand Magal of Touba was celebrated with faith and devotion. From Rebeuss Prison to the Liberté 6 Penal Camp, religious ceremonies were organized to allow those deprived of their liberty to fully experience this powerful spiritual moment.
In these places usually marked by the harshness of prison life, the atmosphere gave way to prayer, meditation, and religious chants. The inmates were thus able to gather around the teachings and spiritual values that accompany the commemoration of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba's departure into exile.
These initiatives are part of the actions taken by the Prison Administration to guarantee incarcerated persons the exercise of their freedom of worship, despite the constraints related to their detention.
Beyond the religious dimension, these moments of exchange constitute spaces for sharing and introspection around fundamental values such as peace, solidarity, discipline, forgiveness and social cohesion.
Through this organization, the Prison Administration aims to support inmates in their moral and spiritual journey. It's a way of reminding them that, even behind bars, faith remains an essential source of hope for successful social reintegration in the long term.
